LORTEK has hosted a new edition of Robotekin Topaketak at its headquarters in Ordizia, the meeting point of the Basque robotics and automation ecosystem. The event served to share knowledge and analyse the current challenges linked to advanced manufacturing in industrial environments.
During the event, LORTEK’s Director of Digital Strategy, Fran Huertos, delivered the presentation “Towards Autonomous Welding: Applied Robotics and Vision”, focused on the evolution of the industrial context and the emerging needs of the sector in the field of robotics applied to welding processes.
In his presentation, attention was drawn to the shortage of professionals specialised in welding, as well as the paradigm shift in industrial production environments. In contrast to traditional repetition-based models, industry now demands robotic systems capable of adapting to shorter series, multiple references and higher quality requirements, incorporating environmental interpretation capabilities through industrial vision systems.
Within this framework, developments in robotics with 2D and 3D artificial vision applied to welding and inspection processes were presented, showing how these solutions contribute to the transition towards more automated, efficient and competitive environments within smart manufacturing, while also facilitating operators’ work.
After the session, attendees toured LORTEK’s facilities, including the SMARTLAB and different work cells where solutions for digital and smart manufacturing applied to industry are developed. During the visit, several collaborative projects with companies and industrial partners were also presented.
LORTEK is a technology centre that works with technologies applied to sectors such as sustainable mobility, metallurgy, aerospace, energy, construction and dual applications, contributing to the digital transformation of industry through research and technological development.
These types of initiatives reinforce LORTEK’s commitment to collaboration, connection and knowledge exchange among the different agents of the industrial ecosystem.
