System for capturing, recording and displaying welding and inspection parameters in real time // Welding control platform

The system consists of several independent modules connected together to provide a robust solution for capturing, recording and viewing data related to the welding process:

  • Data capturing: The most relevant data of the welding process is captured from different welding sources and/or external sensors, in addition to weld inspection data provided by the profilometer. All this information is centralised in a PLC for subsequent storage in a database.
  • Data recording: Data collected in data capture is recorded in a relational database system to be displayed on the user interface, thus ensuring the traceability of the manufacturing process.
  • Data viewing: This is a web application where welding parameters from the data acquisition module can be viewed in real time. By means of this application, the user can view the most relevant parameters of the welding process. In addition, it allows viewing any alarm that may be triggered during the process in order to take action and help decision-making. Finally, it is possible to check production history.

AI application: The system generates a large amount of data which need to be interpreted to obtain value and meaning. To this end, machine learning techniques are applied to guarantee product quality and detect anomalies in data generated. The ultimate goals are to control the welding process and improve manufacturing quality.

Target/Challenge

The main aim is to digitalise the entire welding process. From process data capturing to data saving and displaying. This facilitates better process understanding and improvement by applying Artificial Intelligence techniques.

Result

The main result of applying this asset to welding processes is improved welding quality based on process data recorded and reduced manufacturing times.
